Assistant Professor Lynn Sanford Honored for Preparing Future Social Workers to Serve Children and Adolescents with Emotional Needs
Simmons College School of Social Work Assistant Professor, Lynn Sanford, was awarded the 2010 "Legacy of Caring" award by a leading social service agency for her work in improving the quality of life for children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral needs.
The award is presented annually to one person by Devereux Massachusetts, a non-profit social service agency that treats children and adolescents with special emotional and behavioral needs. Devereux Massachusetts is part of the Devereux Foundation, the nation's largest non-profit provider of services for children and adults with psychological, behavioral, or neurological treatment needs.
The award was presented on February 9, 2010 during Devereux Massachusetts' Legacy of Caring Conference in Worcester, Mass. Sanford was honored for her efforts in training future professionals to work with the most at-risk populations on issues including children and adolescents trauma, survivors of sexual assault and children who have sexual behavior problems.
Sanford is the author of Strong at the Broken Places (1990, 2004) and The Silent Children (1980). I also co-author of Women and Self-Esteem (1984) and In Defense of Ourselves (1978).
As well as providing training and consultation on a national basis, Sanford is a faculty member at the Simmons College School of Social Work. In 2002, she received the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers Award for Outstanding Contribution to Social Work Practice.
The Simmons School of Social Work was founded in 1904. It has a nationally acclaimed clinical social work program and is one of the oldest schools of social work in the nation. Simmons College is a nationally recognized private university located in the heart of Boston.
